Compomers Wear Indirect Evaluation in Posterior Teeth After Two Years
Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate, across at models, the clinical wear of compomer restorations in posterior teeth after two years. Materials and Methods: Forty-two occlusal Class I restorations were performed with the compomers F2000 (3M ESPE) and Dyract AP (Dentsply) in 33 patients, through written consent to participate of the study. After the dental impression technique with addition silicon (Express, 3M ESPE), models of Durone plaster type IV (Dentsply) were obtained after the making of restorations (baseline), 1 and two years. After 2 years, 21 restorations for each material had been evaluated. Models of the Leinfelder scale had been used for the visual reading of wear for comparison. The occlusal surface of each tooth was divided in quadrants, the biggest wear found in each part was written down and an average one was gotten for each tooth. The difference between the wear 1 year after and 2 years and respective baseline for each restoration had been used for the statistical analysis. Results: Using the T-pared test, it was possible to verify that the wear of the restorations was statistically superior after 2 years, for both tested materials (p<0,001). On the basis of the Analysis of variance and test of multiple comparisons of Student-Newman-Keuls was evidenced that the wear average after 1 year was similar between the materials (F2000=17,56µm and Dyract AP=12,77µm) however, after 2 years restorations with F2000 (40,63 µm) demonstrated statistically superior wear (p<0,05) that Dyract AP (29,76µm). Conclusion: Class I restorations with compomer in posterior teeth demonstrated a significant increase in wear after 2 years of clinical evaluation.
