Correlation of stimuli used in the evaluations of hypersensitivity dentin

OBJECTIVES:The aim of this research was to correlate the employed stimuli used in the evaluation of the hypersentivity dentin with the clinical intensity of the sensibility checked in degrees. METHODS:The sample was composed by 655 symptomatic teeth with hypersensitivity dentin after periodontics therapy (73 patient). It was used to evaluate the patient's painful answer the tactile test with exploiting probe, the stimulus through the jet of air with syringe triple and the thermal stimulus for the cold with spray soft drink; using them with duration of 1 second and with intervals of 1 minute among their applications. The answers were checked twice: in the beginning of the experiment and 30 days after desensitizing therapy, using climbs of verbal measure with 4 levels (0 to 3). It was compared the pairs of stimuli using the Scores of Coincidence of Kappa K of the SAS software v 6.12. RESULTS: It was observed that 61,6% of the sample were of the feminine gender and the age was among 31-50 years (41,1%). The teeth more attacked were the inferior incisors (23,8%). The largest number of coincidences was verified between the tests mechanic-jet of air in the beginning (94,6%, K=0,9184) and in the end of the research (100%, k = 0,9998), indicating high agreement among the two. The evaluations front to the other stimuli indicated there to be substantial agreement among them, because none score of K was inferior to 0,6763. CONCLUSION: It is ended that for the obtaining of clinical studies of hypersensitivity controlled, being considered the subjectivity of the pain, it is needed the concomitant job of those stimuli that they should measure clinic and estatistically the reduction of the pain after the treatment.
