Adhesion of the modified glass ionomer with different dentine treatment

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this paper was to access and evaluate the tensile bond strength of the resin modified glass ionomer (Vitremer) in the dentine of deciduous teeth after different treatments of its surface. METHODS:There were 25 deciduous canine teeth selected from BDH-FOUSP, which were selected in the lingual vestibule direction included in ortoftalic resin. The samples were worn out until a plain teeth surface was obtained and distributed the randomly in 5 groups n=10. G1 (control)-Vitremer (VT) following the manufacture's instructions of the product; G2-phosphoric acid conditioning at 37% (AF) and VT; G3- AF, Primer and VT; G4- AF, Single Bond (SB) and VT; G5- One Up Bond F (OUB) and VT. The restoring material was applied with a Centrix syringe in a single increment, after the surface treatment. The samples proves were kept in physiologic serum 37oC during 24 hours and submitted to test of tensile bond strength in a Instron Machine (model 4442), with a constant speed of 0,5mm/min. RESULTS: The results were submitted to statistical analysis using ANOVA and test Tukey. The conditioning with phosphoric acid at 37%, previous to the application of the VT or before the primer, did not interfere in the bond strength of the ionomer cement to the dentine of deciduous teeth (p>0,05). The application of the bond systems SB or OUB highly increased the bond strength of the VT to the dentine of deciduous teeth (p<0,01). Among the bond systems, the OUB and the SB, showed no statistically significant differencE. ). CONCLUSION:It is possible to conclude that the bond systems SB and OUB are indicated for the treatment destined to deciduous teeth previous to restoration with VT.
