Comparative evaluation of different instrumentation techniques

Objective: the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the root canal shaping, comparing the association Endo-Eze/rotary (K3 system) concerned to the isolated and oscillating rotary instrumentation, and having as control the manual instrumentation. Methods: it was used sixty teeth, lower premolars, with 22mm average length, which were divided in four groups of fifteen. Group I: crown-down manual instrumentation, using K-type files, Group II: rotary instrumentation with K3 system, following the manufacture's technique; Group III: oscillating instrumentation with Endo-Eze system, using 10 (0.025), 13 (0.045) and 13 (0.060) instruments, complemented by rotary instrumentation; Group IV: instrumentation with Endo-Eze system. The teeth of each group were divided longitudinally for evaluation with scanning electron microscope, with metallization of specimens. For each corresponding third of the root canal it was attributed 4 scores according to the instrumentation, and from the obtained data on, it was given statistical treatment to these scores (Kruskal-Wallis – á = 0.05). Results: in the Group IV there was lower instrumentation effectiveness when compared to the other groups, statistically significant just in the apical third. In the Group III it was observed better cleaning of the wall canals in the apical third. Conclusion: the association K3/Endo-Eze was more effective in the instrumentation of the root canals, especially in the third apical, optimizing the endodontic treatment.
