Comparison between Linear Tomography Longitudinal and Transversal Slices, in Software

Objectives:The aim of this project was to compare the high of the alveolar ridge with anatomic structures, of the maxilla and mandible, to verify the statistical differences between longitudinal(L) and transversal (T) slices. Methods:For measure the computerized tracings in linear tomographs(tl),we used 44 tl females and males , with 3 L slices and 3 sl T slices, each one, with thickness of 3 mm with increment of 3 mm. All tl was digitalized and the images measured using anatomic points with software Radioimp (Radiomemory – BH – Brazil). Results:For the statistical analysis we used ANOVA test with confidence interval of 95%, and we observed that in the maxilla, in the L and T anterior slices (p=0,70) and posterior slices (p=0,63), weren't found significant statistical differences.. When these have compared with regions, the L slices (p=0,27) and T slices (p=0,35) , weren't showed statistical differences. For the gathered values, there weren't significant statistical differences (p=0,55). In the mandible, we observed the same behavior of the maxilla, in anterior (p=0.94) and posterior (p=0,73). In the L slices (p=0,12) and T slices (p=0,11), there weren't significant statistical differences, free-standing of the regions. For the gathered values, we observed that there weren't significant statistical differences between them (p=0,83). Conclusions:There weren't significant statistical differences between maxilla and mandible, where concluded that we can use with safety the L and T slices in the linear tomographs to measure the distance from alveolar ridge to anatomic structures of each region.
