Magnitude Estimation of Pain in Temporomandibular Disfunction

Objectives: To scale the pain in temporomandibular joint disfunction and to verify the perception stability of pain in the temporomandibular joint. Methods: The study was comprised of 34 individuals with ages ranging from from 25 to 45, suffering from temporomandibular disfunction, that had not undergone surgery in the maxilo-mandibular complex, without neurological and/or psychiatric disorders, and that required the placement of a splint. The measurement of pain was performed before, one week and one month after the placement of the splint, where the analysis was based on these three moments. Scaling method utilized were the category estimations, magnitude estimations, and intermodal matching with the line length response modality. Results: A variance analysis was applied to the individual category estimates, of magnitude and line lengths, and it showed that there were significant differences among the moments in which the assessment occurred. The category and magnitude estimates and the line lengths had a total of p
