CLINICAL STUDY OF INTERACTIVE SELF-LIGATING ORTHODONTICS CCO VS. PASSIVE BTM
Abstract: Self-ligating orthodontics produces transverse development of the arches through the use of low friction and low force.Objective: Compare the distance between initial and post-alignment upper and lower homologous teeth of patients treated with Interactive self-ligating orthodontics (CCO) and Passive self-ligating orthodontics BTM (Transverse Bioadaptation of the jaws).Methods: 22 patients of both sexes, between 12 and 36 years old, with moderate to severe dental crowding participated. 11 treated with Transverse Bioadaptation of the Maxillae (BTM GROUP) and 11 with CCO System (CCO GROUP), from the Chair of Orthodontics who participated in projects approved by the FOUBA Ethics Committee and signed informed consent. A Mitutoyo digital caliper was used in models of both arches between 1st and 2nd premolars and 1st and 2nd molars pre and post alignment (n=22). Student's T test was applied for p < 0.05.
Results:
In the upper jaw, the distance varied in average and SD for the CCO GROUP: 1PM: 2,61+1.52: 2PM 2,39+1.61; 1M: 0.25+ 1.67 and 2M: -1,39 +1.95 and for the BTM GROUP 1PM: 3.24 +; 2,12; 2 PM: 2.92+1.41; 1M: 1.01.+ 1.21 and 2M -1.88+1.74.
In the lower jaw, for the CCO GROUP: 1PM: 2,30 +1.59: 2PM 2,69+2.51; 1M: 1.22+ 1.23 and 2M: 0,32 +1.71 and for the BTM GROUP: 1PM: 2.13 +1,19 2 PM: 2.68+1.06; 1M: 0.83.+ 1.13 y 2M: -0.05+1.49.
No statistically significant difference between the groups for any of the pieces studied.
Conclusions:
Treatment with a self-ligating system in arches with moderate to severe crowding increases the transverse diameter without a statistically significant difference between Passive (BTM) and Interactive (CCO) with transverse development mainly in the premolar sector either with the natural Tru-Arch format arch used by CCO as with the wide arc used by BTM.
