ANALISYS OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE APEX LOCATOR SYBRONENDO MINI. HISTOMORPHOMETRIC STUDY.

Objective: We present an  in vitro study in which we analyzed the effectiveness of Sybron Endo Mini locator to determine working length during root chanel treatment,  in upper and lower incisors. Materials and methods: 20 lower and upper incisors recently extracted and fully developed apices were placed in sodium hypochlorite 2.5% for one hour after its removal and were preserved in 10% formalin buffer until use. With a file type k # 08 (Dentsply-Maillefer), once made openings cameral, apical permeability  of the theet was confirmed. The dental elements were then placed in an ad-hoc device containing saline solution. The root chanels were accessed with a flexible K file (Dentsply-Maillefer Flexofile) until the locator SybronEndo Mini (Sybron Dental Specialties) marked the apex and then back to the 0.5 mark on the scale. Under these conditions  the files were fixed to the tooth with cyanoacrylate. The elements prepared in this form were washed in running water for 24 hours, dehydrated in acetone and embedded in methacrylate. Wear sections were made,  analyzed with optical microscope, photographed and subjected to histomorphometric analysis by means of Image Pro Plus program. The shortest linear distance between the end of the file and limit CDC were determined and data were statistically analyzed by Chi Square test.  Results: The results indicated that the average distance between the CDC and the extreme of the file was 0.24 ± 0.2 mm. Differences between expected and observed values were statistically significant at p <0.05. Conclusion: there may be discrepancies between the values indicated by the apex locator SybronEndo Mini and the distance between the end of the file and the CDC limit in  the root chanel.
