ASSESSMEN OF THE DENTAL INCAPACITY OF PSYCHIATRIC PATIENTS IN DEINSTITUTIONALIZATION PROCESS.
Keywords: psychiatric deinstitutionalization, disability scales. Incapacity is a permanent or temporary reduction of the structure or funcionality that limits the accomplishment of normal function. AIM: The aim of the present work was to determine the degree of incapacity or disability caused by the loss of dental pieces in patients transferred from a neuropsychiatric hospital to a rehabilitation and assisted externment program for social reintegration. METHODS: The sample comprised 56 adult psychiatric (28 F and 28 M) in deinstitutionalization process, mean age 48,02 (9,02) (range 28-65). To quantify the situation of incapacity, scales were used: aesthetic A, phonetic P and masticatory M. The M component from the DMFT index was considered for the evaluation of the loss of function. Median and range values were calculated. The correlation was analyzed with a confidence interval of 5% between age and loss of function. RESULTS: M function 82(92) men n28 75(80), women n28 85(92) P> 0.05, rho 0,4616. A and P function 34.25(100), men n28 29(83), women n28 40(100) P> 0.05, rho 0,5376. The coefficient of determination of the regression on age, sex and pathology, for the M function was 0,2949 and for the A and P function 0,2935. Thus, the 29,45% and 29,35% of the total missing teeth and, therefore the funcionality, is due variables such as age, sex and pathology. CONCLUSION: The results reveal, according to the scales applied, a permanent weakening or loss of function consistent with incapacity in psychiatric patients who are transferred to the deinstitutionalization process.
