FACIAL GROWTH PREDICTION: COMPARISON BETWEEN RICKETTS AND BJÖRK-JARABAK ANALYSIS.

Every child has a unique pattern of development. To reach a successful orthodontic result, the orthodontist must have some understanding of patient’s future facial growth potential. The amount, direction, and timing of growth are important key in determining a successful treatment.
The purpose of this study was to compare 2 methodologies that predict facial growth. The 2 systems that were tested and compared were the Ricketts Vert. and Björk-Jarabak percentage of facial height
Lateral cephalometric head films of 100 patients ranged from 8-16 years were used, Not any of them had history of orthodontic treatment. The lateral cephalometric radiographs of each subject were taken with Gendex Ortolarix S Class I type B Equipment. Tracing of the cephalometric radiographs were made in each films. All radiographs were traced by hands by a single author and processed with CECLACOM System
The finding of the present study indicates that two analyses differ in facial pattern of mesofacial and brachyfacial but not differ in dolichofacial .In 11% of the cases don’t agree result between two cephalometric analyses of the same patient.
More than one Cephalometric traced must be employed for description of growth pattern in each patient because in some cases their outcomes don’t agree.
Key words: Cephalometric evaluation, Ricketts analysis, Björk-Jarabak, Analysis, Facial Growth Predictor Orthodontic.
