Analysis of the thematic profile in the Final Integration Works of the School of Dentistry during 2005 and 2006, J. F. Kennedy University.

Graduate Students produce a Final Integration Work (FIW) at the end of their degree, integrating knowledge, skills and abilities specified in advance in the graduate profile and defined in Dentistry career’s goals. This profile states an important Basic element. Through the FIW the University concludes a cycle of partial evaluations, by which the institution fulfils it’s own and the community’s requirements of a proper graduate degree. From a graduate’s point of view, this Final Work should be the last instance of the graduate degree, allowing him/her to integrate knowledge and to evidence the competences achieved during his personal and professional formation.
Goals: (1) Value the professional profile through the FIW during years 2005 and 2006; (2) Relate the Basic-Clinic professional profile.
Materials and Methods: The present work was carried out using all FIW of years 2005 (44) and 2006 (60), with research topics and tutors chosen by the students themselves. The profiles were analyzed and classified in Basic (B) and Clinic (C) according to the FIW thematic contents
Results: During 2005, on 44 FIW, 43% were Clinic (C) and 57% Basic (B). In 2006, 41% were Clinic (C) and 59% Basic (B)
Conclusions: There are significant differences between the Basic and Clinic components in both years, with a clear predominance of the Basic component. During 2006 this discrepancy remained, with no Basic increase from one year to another.
Key words: thematic contents, profile, FIW.
