Academic performance of the students of the cohort 2003 according to the labour situation

One of the constants of the university Argentine evolution is the low academic performance, that is to say the high index of desertion and repetition, is for it that to level of the odontological education one must investigate the causales of it in a complex frame of interactions and factors. The present work compares the academic performance of the pupils of the cohort 2003 during the first three years of the career according to the labour condition, since this one might act as a negative factor in the same one. It is a longitudinal - descriptive study, the universe is constituted by the pupils of the cohort 2003 of the F.O.LP. For the obtaining of the information one used a constructed survey and the records of qualifications of the subjects of 1 º, 2 º and 3 º year of the career. They took as indicators of the performance the average of notes and of skilled matters, and the percentage of free and regular pupils. On a whole of 474 beginers in the year 2003, 62,87 % does not work, 25,32 % works and 11,81 % did not answer. Of the pupils who do not work: in 1 º year they remained regular 73,49 % with an average of notes of 5.36 and of skilled matters of 3,44, and free 26,51 %; in 2 º year they remained regular 57,08 % with an average of notes of 5.44 and of skilled matters of 3,70, and free 42,92 %; in 3 º year they remained regular 36 % with an average of notes of 5.90 and of skilled matters of 6,60, and free 64 %. With regard to the pupils who work: in 1 º year they remained regular 64,17 % with an average of notes of 5.17 and of skilled matters of 3,20, and free 35,83 %; in 2 º year they remained regular 54,55 % with an average of notes of 5.26 and of skilled matters of 3,38, and free 45,45 %; in 3 º year they remained regular 33,33 % with an average of notes of 5.96 and of skilled matters of 6,36, and free 66,67 %. ** observes a major percentage of free pupils between those that they work not existing a significant difference in the average of notes and skilled matters.
