“Microbiology comparison of subgingival biofilm in an implant and contra lateral tooth.”

The long-term survival of dental implants depends, in part, on control of bacterial and fungus  infection in the peri-implant region.
Materials and  methods: 20 patients were studied, aged 21 to 65 years old, with  periodontal health without periodontal disease or in maintenance;with  20 or more teeth and one to tour implants with fixed prothesis. Exclusion group: removible prothesis, periodontal disease,  periimplantitis, patients who ingesta antimicrobial or anti fungus  20 days befote microbiologic simple, immunosupressed.Periodontal clinical and radiography  index were taken.Relative isolation was made in implant region and the sample was taken after eliminate supragingival plaque. The sample was put in  Eppendorf tube with  0.5 ml of sterile solution and  VMGA medium for anaerobic microorganisms. The same test was made in the similar contra lateral tooth.Microscopic studies were performed. Results:microorganisms found in implants was similar to the similar tooth in contralateral side in 90 % of the patients. Anaerobic microorganisms were less than 5 %, fungus were 30% in periodontal sulcus. Periodontal index were similar , 1 ± 0.7 mm. Conclusions: the microbiota of successful implants was similar to that of periodontal health.
