Evaluation of contraceptives ingest as risk factor to periodontal disease
Oral manifestation of normal hormonal variation during different phases along women life, have influence on periodontum, which is one of white organ to steroid hormones action. This hormones have prevalent action during puberty, pregnance, menopause and ontraceptives ingest.Objetive:to determine contraceptives ingest influence in severity of periodontal disease. Materials and Methods: case control study. Women 18 up to 45 years old immunocompetents with menstrual cycles. The systemic historic was made with registration of risk factors using a survey, periodontal index were taken and microbiological samples were collected. Results: There are a lineal correlation between longer time of contaceptives ingest and bleeding probe.Periodontal disease association with contaceptives ingest vary according to age, women up to 25 years old who ingest contraceptives have worse periodontal disease(prevalence of gingivitis and periodontitis and Porphyromana gngivalis and Prevotella intermedia and more quantity of Candida spp ), and it was statistically analysed and it was significative (p < 0.001), By another hand, 26 to 35 years old there were not differences between who ingest contaceptives and who no; and, 36 to 45 years old women whithout ingest of contaceptives have worse periodontal disease. Perhaps, hormon act as nutritive for microorganisms which compete with another mcroorganisms more pathogenous. Conclusions: women hormones induce microbial changes because they altere the environment and act as nutrition for microorganisms. At youth, exogenous steroid hormones have more noxious effect. Key words: contraceptives, periodontitis, hormone.
