The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of oral health education on dental plaque index of surgical candidate patients of Periodontics department of Tabriz Medical Sciences; And to determine the effect of repeated multi-stage training and to determine the effect of repeated multi-stage training.
Method:
The 84 patients after individually matching divided to case and control cases which were chosen among periodontal surgery candidates that at least had a periodontal surgery during the past year.
Routinely there is only one-stage oral hygiene instruction before surgery and plaque index recording per any session of follow up visit.
Session of follow up involves one week (1), tow week later(2), one month later(3) and three month later(4) (totally 140 days).
Our intervention was to present of oral hygiene instruction per every session of follow up visit in case group and evaluate the effect of instruction between case and control group totally and between any sessions of follow up visit.
Statistical analysis was done by independent T-Test for final plaque index in cases and controls and using repeated measure ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc test for determine the plaque index changes between every stages of training.
Results:
There was statistically significant decrease in plaque index in cases and controls(P < 0.05).
Between groups of cases based on session of training ,there was significant different between G1 with G2(P = 0.19) and G3(P = 0.23) and G4(P = 0.08) and also between G2 with G3(P = 0.13) and G3 with G4(P = 0.04)but there was no significant difference between G2 with G4(P = 0.68) and between G3 with G4(P = 0.68)
Conclusion:
There are factors that can strengthen the efficacy of training like repeating and also there are factors that illustrate where and when the most usefulness of repeating will happen.
