ABSTRACT Objective: Method: Results: Conclusion: This paper highlights THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HYPNOSIS IN DENTISTRY. The meaning of hypnosis was fully described from a general view to a more specific view which relates to clinical practice in the field of Dentistry. In describing the subject, hypnotherapy was used more consistently and refers to the use of hypnosis to solve problems relating to a patient's condition. The Principles of hypnosis such as relaxation and imagery were explained, and the basis behind the procedure. Also, the paper tends to distinguish between hypnotherapy and chemotherapy. To achieve this, the advantages of hypnotherapy over chemotherapy, and the disadvantages of hypnotherapy, were outlined. The uses of hypnosis ranging from history taking, alleviation of fear, increasing pain threshold of the patient, anesthesia, prevention of unwanted dental habits such as bruxism, accustoming a patient to an orthodontic or prosthetic appliances, were highlighted.
