Introduction: removable partial dentures are used to restore missing teeth to improve aesthetics and mastication among other functions. However there are some disadvantages associated with wearing removable partial dentures. Objectives: To assess the impact of dentures on the oral health status of denture wearers. Methods: General Oral Health Assessment index for denture wearers questionnaire was administered to all adult patients who have been wearing Kennedy's Class III and IV partial dentures for at least six months who presented in the prosthetic clinic of Obafemi Awolowo university teaching hospital complex dental hospital. Results: A total of 53 partial denture wearers were seen. Twenty eight (52.8%) were males while 25 (47.2%) were females. The mean GOHAI score for males was 29.7 + 8.86 while it was 28.2 + 10.25 for females. There were no significant differences between males and females in any of the mean scores calculated for each of the 12 questions of the General Oral Health Assessment Index(GOHAI). CONCLUSION: The mean impact of partial denture on denture wearer as assessed by GOHAI is low. Gender did not have any effect on the outcome measure. The partial denture fabricated might have improved the patients' masticatory function and aesthetics.
