Does the use of Lasers as an Adjunct to Conventional Endodontic Treatment yield better results than Conventional Treatment alone?

Objectives: To map the available literature to provide an overview of the use of lasers in root canal disinfection.
Methods:
The Arskey and O’Malley’s 6-step framework was used as a guide to conduct a scoping review. Using the PICO format, various databases were searched including PubMed, Wiley Online Library, Elsevier, ScienceDirect, Google scholar, trial databases and grey literature.
Results: The number of records screened through database searching was 3371; following the removal of duplicates and exclusion of articles that don’t meet the inclusion criteria. A total of 95 articles of related studies were included in the scoping review. The studies found were very heterogenous in terms of study design, types of laser interventions used, types of teeth selected and the study media. The records also showed that several systematic reviews had been conducted already.
Conclusions:
No clear protocol with defined methodology or laser parameter use is available.
