Can 4% Articaine Buccal Infiltration replace Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block (IANB) with 2% Lidocaine for Pulp Therapy in Mandibular Molars in Adults?
Objectives: This meta-analysis aims to quantitatively analyze the efficacy of 4% articaine buccal infiltration (BI) with 2% lidocaine Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block (IANB) in providing pulpal anesthesia in Mandibular molars. Methods: Data was searched in timeframe of 1991-2020 from databases PubMed, Cochrane and Ovid SP using appropriate MeSH terms. Full text articles were selected after proper screening of titles and their abstracts. Results: : Seven studies were involved for the final meta-analysis. The parameter under analysis was, “Is Articaine buccal infiltration sufficient enough to replace lidocaine Inferior alveolar nerve block for Pulp Therapy in Mandibular molar”. From the results of our meta-analysis we have inferred that since statistically the results are insignificant, thus we can replace the lidocaine Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block with Articaine buccal infiltration for pulp therapy. Conclusions: : Under the bounds of this meta-analysis, we have concluded that 4% Articaine buccal infiltration is not only sufficient enough to replace 2%Xylocain Inferior alveolar nerve block for Pulp Therapy in Mandibular molar but also is more effective and has more success rate. However, due to limited literature and data, the quality of our results is low, thus more randomized well-controlled studies need to be done with adequate sample size should be conducted for the verification of same.
