Career Satisfaction of Graduated ADS Program at JUST

Objectives: The aim of this study is to determine the factors that affect career satisfaction of the graduated Allied Dental Sciences program (ADS) at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) including:(1) educational issues, (2)financial issues, (3)employment settings and (4)employment policies. Methods: This descriptive study employed a questionnaire. The sample population for this study is drawn from the universe of dental hygienists and dental assistants who graduated from ADS program at JUST. The size of this group is 19 Dental Hygienist and Dental Assistant. Results are analyzed by using the SPSS package for microcomputers. Results: 10.5% of survyed subjects responded that the program itself which prepare the students to be Dental Hygienists and Dental Assistants is invaluable, while 42.1% of the them answered that it is valuable at low degree. Salary level issue, 33.3% of the surveyed subjects responded little value, while 16.7% responded high value. The support and encouragement from the employer, 10.5% of the surveyed subjects responded little value, while 5.3% responded very high value. Adequate instruments and materials to practice work, 47.4% of the surveyed subjects responded high value, while 15.8% responded low value.The effective collaboration between the workers in the practice settings, 36.8% of the surveyed subjects responded high value, while 10.5% responded low value. The flexibility of work hours, 10.5% of the surveyed subjects responded high value, while 21.1% responded low value. Finally,policies and procedures of employment, 5.3% of the surveyed subjects responded high value, while 21.1% responded low value. Conclusion: Factors of satisfaction are collaboration between employees, academic members at their program are at a high quality, and adequate instruments and materials for practice work. Factors of dissatisfaction are salary level, level of support and encouragement from the employers and flexibility in work hours.
