Fatigue Flexural Strength of Different Types of Flowable Resin Composites
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the flexural properties, flexural strength (σF), elastic modulus (σE), and flexural fatigue strength (FσE), of different types of flowable resin composite. Methods: A short fiber flowable resin composite, EverX Flow (EF), was used. Three bulk fill flowable resin composites, Beautifil Bulk Flowable (BB), Omnichroma Flow Bulk (OB), and SDR Flow+ Bulk Fill Flowable (SB), were used. Four flowable resin composites, Gracefill Zero Flow (GF), Visalys Flow (VF), Beautifil Unishade Flow (BU), and Omnichroma Flow (OF) were also used. The flowable resin composites were filled into a stainless-steel split mold with dimensions of 25 × 2 × 2 mm and cured. Following ISO 4049, the σF and σE were determined using a universal testing machine. For the FσF, a staircase method was used to determine FσF using a frequency of 20 Hz for 50,000 cycles. One-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test were used for analysis of σF and σE data and a modified t-test with Bonferroni correction was used for FσF data. Results: EF showed significantly higher σF and FσF than the other resin composites. EF also showed significantly higher σE than the other resin composites, apart from VF. The results are shown in the table below. Conclusions: The short fiber resin composite showed superior flexural properties to the other types of resin composites. EF may be suitable for use in stress bearing areas as a base material due to its higher fatigue stress resistance.
