Novel CAD/CAM Composite Resin Block With Enhanced Mechanical Strength
Objectives: To develop a new CAD/CAM composite resin block with enhanced mechanical strength. Methods: Experimental composite block (Exp) was formulated by Glidewell resin and filler proprietary technologies. For flexural strength (FS), the rectangular specimens (t×w×l=1x4x12-13 mm, n=5) were prepared in accordance to ISO-6872 and tested according to ISO-4049. Flexural modulus (FM) was determined from the slope of the linear region of the stress-strain curve from the FS test. The specimens for compressive strength (d×h=2×4 mm, n=8) and diametral tensile strength (d×h=6×3mm, n=8) were milled from the block materials on Glideweell TS-150 system. Compressive strength (CS) and diametral tensile strength (DTS) were tested according to the ASTM-D695 and ANSI/ADA-Specification 27, respectively. All specimens were tested on an Instron 5564 universal testing machine. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (p≤0.05). Results: Measured properties are tabulated below. Values in the same column with the same superscript are not significantly different.
Conclusions: Glidewell Exp showed higher mechanical properties from FS, FM, CS and DTS aspects as compared to commercially available corresponding block materials.
