Degree of Conversion and Depth of Cure of Bulkfill Composites
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the degree of conversion, and depth of cure of four bulk-fill composites. Methods: Four bulk-fill composites (Reveal Bulk, Bisco; Filtek Restorative, 3M ESPE; Beautifil Restorative, Shofu; X-Tra Fill , Voco.) were used. Depth of cure was measured with ISO 4049 methods: After the materials were light-cured (40sec/500mw/cm2), the uncured part was removed with the plastics spatula. The height of the cylinder of cured material was measured and divided by two. Degree of conversion (DC) was determined using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) at different depth (0,1,2,3,4,5mm) of composites, which were light-cured from top (40sec/500mw/cm2). Data were analyzed by ANOVA and t-test. Results: Mean (standard deviation) of depth of cure (n=3) and polymerization of degree of conversion (%) (n=1) are shown in the table. Conclusions: Not all of the bulk-fill composites had depth of cures more than 4 mm. Degree of conversions of all of the bulk-fill composites decreased as depth increased.
