Mid-buccal root of Maxillary Second Molar Evaluated by Cone-Beam Computed Tomography
Objectives: This report describes the endodontic management of a case of mid-buccal root found in maxillary second molars. In this case report, we present a maxillary second molar with four canals of mesialbuccal root canal, mid-buccal root canal, disto-buccal root canal, palatal root canal. Methods: A 35-year-old female patient was referred from local dental clinician for non-surgical root canal therapy of tooth 17 due to deep caries with canal obliteration. An assessment of the internal configuration of the tooth was performed using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and magnification of a surgical operating microscope. Results: A unique morphology with three buccal root canals and single palatal root canal was identified. The morphology was characterized by three buccal roots and palatal root . Complex canal configurations of maxillary molars including the presence of midbuccal root were presented. Conclusions: CBCT was a valuable tool in this diagnosis, as it provided a precise description of these unusual anatomical variations.
