Selections of implant dentists in Japan

Objectives: There is guideline of implant prosthodontics treatments. However, selection of prosthodontics procedure is leaved a decision up to each prosthetist. The purpose of this examination is reveal survey for prosthetic procedure of implant restorations among medical specialists in oral implant treatment in japan.
Methods: 300 specialists in oral implant treatment of Japanese Society of Oral Implantology were selected at random. They were received a questionnaire research about implant therapy. Survey item was Year of clinical experience, Implants experience, Ratio of impression technique (open tray versus close tray) , Primary implants system , Number of implants placement / year, Percentage of abutment type, Percentage of superstructure type, Ratio of retain method of superstructure, Technique of cement-retain (temporary cementation versus luting cementation) and, Presence or absence of experience of accidental case in cementation.
Results: A response rate for a mail survey was 33 %. Average of clinical experience was 28.7 years and implants experience was 23.0 years. Impression technique ratio was open tray (59.0 %) and close tray (40.0 %). Main implants system was the order of the camlog inplant, Nobel biotechnology care and the straumann. Average number of implants placement / year was 84 cases. The kind of abutments was used much by the ready-made titanium abutment, the CAD/CAM titanium abutment and UCLA type+ casting gold alloy. Ratio of retain method was cement retain (58.8 %) and screw retain (41.2 %). A person with experience of accidental case in cementation was admitted 66 %.
Conclusions: This examination suggests that impression technique is faithful to a basis for implanting treatment, but the expenses influence the type of superstructure fixed and choice of an abutment type in japan.
