Bond strengths of cements to a new indirect resin composite.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strengths of three luting agents to indirect resin composite.
Methods: Three luting agents were used for this study;
1) ESTECEM / UNIVERSAL Primer (Tokuyama)
2) Panavia V5 / K-etchant GEL and Clearfil Ceramic Primer Plus (Kuraray Noritake Dental)
3) Smartcem (Dentsply)

The surfaces of fifteen specimens made of a newly developed indirect resin composite (MIYABI, Dentsply) were ground flat with #600-grid SiC paper and airborne-particle abraded. Then they were divided into three groups of five each. Stainless steel rods were bonded to the specimens’ surfaces using one of the three cements. The tensile bond strengths were tested after 24h water storage (37°C) using universal testing machine. These specimens were fractured under the tension at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min, and the maximum load at the fracture was recorded. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD (p<0.05).
Results: The results are presented in the table below. The bond strengths of ESTECEM was significantly higher than Panavia V5 and Smartcem (p<0.05).
Conclusions: ESTECEM showed significantly high bond strength to MIYABI.
