Evaluation the Marginal Chipping of Anterior Veneers Using CAD/CAM Technology

Objectives: To Evaluate the degree of marginal chipping of ceramic anterior veneers made with computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) by the calculation of the marginal chipping factor (CF).
Methods: An ivorine typodont right central incisor (D95SDP-200; Kilgore International, Inc., Coldwater, MI) was selected to receive a traditional veneer preparation. Ceramic veneers were milled using CEREC inEos. Four different ceramic materials were selected and divided into four groups (n=9): G1: Luecite-reinforced glass ceramic (IPS Empress CAD). G2: Lithium disilicate glass-ceramic ) IPS e.max CAD). G3: Interpenetrating Phase Ceramic (VITA ENAMIC). G4: Composite Resin (Lava Ultimate ESPE). Each group was milled in three different thicknesses (0.4mm, 0.7mm, 1.0mm). Margins of each sample were inspected under the operating light microscope (Leica, Wetzlar, Germany) to determine the marginal chipping and the chipping factor (CF) of the samples were calculated.
Results: A MANOVA with Tukey test at p<0.05 was used to find any statistical differences between the materials and thicknesses used as it shown in the table; where groups with the same letter are not significantly different.
Conclusions: The chipping factor of a material decreases as the thickness increases. In general Lava Ultimate and Enamic showed the least marginal chipping at each thickness when compared to the other materials used.
