Method: study in vitro with bacterial isolates from patients with moderate chronic periodontitis. These were planted on blood agar and after were made dilutions in base 10 to reduce the microbial load. This dilution was made in agar Wilkins Challgren supplemented with blood, hemin, menadione and antimicrobial solution (Chamomilla or C. officinalis lyophilized). The minimum inhibitory concentration and bacteriostatic or bactericidal effect was determined. Descriptive analysis was conducted to determine the effects of different concentrations of lyophilized, between 0 and 15 mg/ml on the microorganisms tested.
Result: C. officinalis and Chamomilla showed bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity on F. nucleatum and P. gingivalis; while Chamomilla showed activity bactericidal on the three periodontopathogens evaluated.
Conclusion: Chamomilla and C. officinalis showed bactericidal effect on F. nucleatum, and P. gingivalis, but Chamomilla had not effect on P. intermediate / nigrescens.
