Color Stability and Polishability of Bulkfill Composites

Objective: The objective of this study is to compare the color stability and gloss values of bulkfill composite resins.

Method: Specimens (n=5) for color stability (Dimensions-13x4mm) and gloss (Dimensions-15x8.5x4mm) were prepared from the following resin composite materials (Group-1(Control): Tetric N-Ceram (A3/Ivoclar Vivadent); Group-2(Control): FiltekTM Z350 XT (A3E/3M ESPE); Group-3: Tetric N-Ceram Bulkfill (IVA/Ivoclar Vivadent); Group-4: QuiXX (Universal Shade/Dentsply Caulk); Group-5: X-traFil (Universal Shade/Voco); Group-6: Surefill HDP (Shade-A/Dentsply Caulk). Specimens were prepared and light cured as per manufacturer’s recommendation using Bluephase Style (Ivoclar Vivadent). Color stability specimens were surface finished (320-1200 SiC paper + alumina (50μm) slurry. Baseline L*a*b* values were measured against white and black backgrounds (UltraScan VIS spectrophotometer). Specimens were stored in caffeinated solution for 48 hours and DE values were measured. Gloss specimenswere finished using 320 SiC paper (Baseline/T1) followed by polishing with OptraPol (Ivoclar Vivadent) polishing system for 20/40/60 seconds (T2/T3/T4). Three gloss values (GU) per specimens were measured (Novo-Curve Glossmeter) at each time interval and average was considered as final value.  Data was analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD post-hoc test (α=0.05).
