Methods: Thirty edentulous volunteers received a new set of conventional complete dentures and after an adaptation period (30 days), the subjects were submitted to an initial assessment (baseline) of the Brazilian version of a questionnaire for satisfaction with complete dentures (Q1). The volunteers were randomized and assigned to 2 protocols: protocol 1- use of A1 during the first 15 days, followed by a washout period of 15 days, and use of A2 over the next 15 days; protocol 2- use of A2 during the first 15 days, followed by a washout period of 15 days, and use of A1 over the next 15 days. The Q1 was done again and the data were analyzed using the nonparametric “related samples Friedman test” (α = .05), followed by “multiple comparisons Dunn test” (α = .05). Another questionnaire to evaluate the aspects related to the use of each adhesive (Q2) was used for compared each treatment (A1 and A2) and these data were analyzed using the nonparametric “paired samples Wilcoxon test” (α = .05).
Results: It was not observed statistical difference in mean values among baseline, A1 and A2 (p>.05) to Q1, with exception to the questions which are related with retention (p=0.008) and comfort (p=0.37) of mandibular complete dentures (MCD). The retention improves with both adhesives and the comfort just with cream. For the Q2 it was not observed statistical difference in mean values between A1 and A2 (p>.05).
Conclusion: The use of A1 or A2 just influence the satisfaction on MCD. For the others parameters evaluated, the use of denture adhesives doesn’t influence on satisfaction of bimaxillary complete dentures wearers.
