REVIEW of YOUTUBE VIDEOS ABOUT EARLY CHILDHOOD CARIES
Objectives: Early childhood caries (ECC) in children not only affects the oral and dental health of the child but also affects the general health of the child. Infection in the deciduous teeth or early loss of deciduous teeth in children with ECC nutritional deficiency, thus affecting the growth and development of the child. Nowadays, access to information via the internet is fast and easy in every environment, especially learning new information from You tube is increasing day by day. The aim of this study was to compare the usefulness and quality of YouTube videos about early childhood caries Methods: The first 100 videos in Turkish language using the keywords 'early childhood caries' on Youtube were evaluated. Non-Turkish videos, duplicates, off-topic videos and videos longer than 15 minutes were excluded. Video duration, number of views, number of likes, number of dislikes, number of comments, time since upload, video source and video server were recorded. Interaction indices and view rates were calculated. The contents of the videos included by two paediatric dentists on the same day were evaluated. Results: The first 100 videos found in the YouTube search were evaluated. Of the first 100 videos, 53 were excluded due to languagerepetition and irrelevant content. Of the 47 videos included, 35 (74%) were presented by specialised physicians. The videos had an average video duration of 1.55 minutes, 1411 views, 9 likes, 0.46 comments, and 1715 day elapsed time. Conclusions: It was observed that the presenter of the video should be preferred as a specialist dentist when the parents are to be informed about the ECC videos on the YouTube platform and that the existing videos are inadequate. It was concluded that it would be more appropriate for parents to be guided by dentists to receive information from professional sources.
