Pediatric Aesthetic Rehabilitation: Conservative Approach for Traumatized Teeth
Objectives: The aim of this case report is to present the aesthetic rehabilitation of permanent central incisors with strip crowns and composite restorations, which suffered developmental defects due to dental trauma of their predecessors. Methods: An eight-year-old systemically healthy girl with discoloration and defects in her anterior teeth presented to the clinic with aesthetic complaints. Intraoral examination showed that the permanent upper central incisors and permanent right lower central incisor were hypoplastic. When the etiology regarding the condition of the teeth was questioned, it was learned that the patient had dental trauma to the anterior tooth region during primary dentition. After isolating the incisors, dental prophylaxis was performed to remove the plaque. Then, 5% NaOCl was applied to all three incisors’ surfaces for bleaching for five minutes. After the desired bleaching was achieved, strip crowns filled with A2-colored universal composite resin were applied to the upper incisors. The lower incisor was restored with universal composite resin after masking with bleach-shade composite. Results: Complications may occur in permanent teeth due to primary tooth trauma. If such complications are seen, different treatment options can be used according to the needs of the tooth. As in this case, bleaching and strip crown application constitute a conservative approach. Conclusions: Meeting the aesthetic expectations of pediatric patients at an early stage can contribute greatly to the psychological development of the patient. In addition, follow-up is important for the early treatment of the consequences of dental trauma related to the aesthetic aspect in the pediatric patient.
