EFFECT of 100-DAY DISTILLED WATER AGING on THREE DENTAL COMPOSITES
Objectives: The aim of present study was to determine the changes of water sorption (WS)-solubility (SO), Vickers hardness (VH) and surface roughness (SR) of a one-shaded condensable composite (Charisma Diamond One (CDO), Kulzer, Germany), a one-shaded bulk flowable composite (Charisma Bulkflow One (CBFO), Kulzer, Germany) and a conventional dental composite (Filtek Z250 (FZ250), 3M, USA) after 100 days in distilled water. Methods: Five disc-shaped specimens (6 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness) were prepared from each dental composite. After evaluating their initial VH and SR values, they were immersed in distilled water for WS and SO analyses which were performed by weighing the specimens for 1, 4, 7, 14, 30, 60, 100 days. Then, final VH and SR of the specimens were measured at the end of the 100 days. The suitability of the data for normal distribution was examined with the Shapiro-Wilk Test. As Robust ANOVA was used for the non-normally distributed data, Generalized Linear model was used for normally distributed data in terms of composite and time. The significance level was taken as p<0.05. Results: While the final VH of FZ250 and CDO decreased statistically, the final VH of CBFO did not change after 100-day distilled water aging. The final SR of FZ250 and CDO increased statistically. However, the final SR of CBFO did not change. While the WS of all composites increased statistically, only SO of FZ250 decreased and changed over time between 1 and 100 days. Conclusions: While the VH of FZ250 and CDO decreased, their SR increased after being kept in distilled water for 100 days. However, no statistical change was observed in VH and SR of CBFO. The CBFO had the highest WS and SO at the end of 100 days.
