Investigation of KABP Intervention on Oral Health Status of Kidney Transplant Recipients
Objectives: Through the questionnaire survey and routine oral examination of oral health care knowledge, beliefs and behaviors of kidney transplant patients, combined with the theoretical framework of "Knowledge-Attitude-Practice ( KABP ) " of oral health education , to understand the influence of KABP on oral health status of kidney transplant patients, and to explore the influence of KABP on oral hygiene, oral health behaviors and oral health knowledge of kidney transplant patients, so as to provide theoretical basis for improving the oral health status and life quality of kidney transplant patients. Methods: A web-based questionnaire survey was conducted on the oral health status, behaviors, and knowledge of organ transplant patients from the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Guangxi Medical University Transplantation Medical Center. Excel and SPSS26.0 were used for the statistical analysis. Results: A total of 105 valid questionnaires were collected. In this study, dental health issues had an effect on patients' quality of life, and patients' understanding of organ transplantation and dental health was lacking. Patients who had undergone organ transplants paid more attention to maintaining their oral health. However, most patients are only familiar with brushing as a method of removing plaque, and they rarely maintain their oral health under the proper direction of oral medical mechanisms, while their teeth did not show obvious discomfort in the year after organ transplantation. Female patients had greater dental health and organ transplant knowledge than male patients, and non-smokers had better oral health than smokers. The more frequently patients were educated about organ transplant self-care, the better their knowledge of organ transplant and oral health was, and regular education did improve patients' oral health behaviour to a greater or lesser extent. Conclusions: The state of kidney transplant patients' oral health is significantly impacted by KABP. The oral health status and quality of life of kidney transplant patients can both be improved by KABP since it can alter oral health status, encourage oral health behavior, and increase oral health knowledge.
