ASSOCIATION BETWEEN the EXPERIENCE of CARIES, OBESITY and SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC FACTORS.
Objectives: The objective was to evaluate the association between caries experience, overweight/obesity, and socioeconomic and environmental indicators in schoolchildren from the Municipality of Cajamar (SP). Methods: The study used primary data and secondary data characterizing the sociodemographic profile of each participant. To understand the association between socioeconomic and environmental factors with the experience of caries and body mass index (BMI), multivariate analyzes were used. Results: The caries experience was 6.5%, 40.2% and 46.5% at 2, 5 and 12 years, with a higher average rate at 5 years (1.5±2.5). At 2 and 5 years of age, the highest caries rate was associated with the worst sociodemographic indicators, excess weight was associated with the female sex and better socioeconomic aspects. Conclusions: There is no association between obesity and dental caries, but rather, an association between worse socioeconomic indicators and dental caries; while obesity was associated with better socioeconomic aspects.
