Analysis of Biosafety Protocols in Dentistry During the Covid-19 Pandemic
Objectives: The objective of this study was to analyze the content of official documents issued by international institutions and national bodies on biosafety conducts that must be adopted in dental practice. Methods: This is a documentary research, content analysis of guides, manuals, and guidelines of biosafety documents in dental practice. Seven documents were obtained and included in the survey, including technical notes issued by the World Health Organization, the Federal Council of Dentistry (CFO), the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) and the Brazilian Ministry of Health. In the content analysis of the documents, a framework for data extraction was constructed. Results: The main variables observed in the analyzed documents were the use of Personal Protective Equipment (coat, gloves, protective masks, cap, and face shields), use of antimicrobial mouthwash, recommendation for the use of manual instruments, adequate sterilization of instruments and label guidance breathing. The rules for distance between professionals and patients, hand hygiene, cleaning and disinfection of the work environment were included in all documents. Conclusions: The knowledge of dental professionals about the ways in which the disease is transmitted and the importance of adopting preventive measures in patient care is essential to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in clinical and dental settings.
