Validation of the Psychometric Properties of the Chilean Version of the PIDAQ Questionnaire.
Objectives: The cross-cultural adaptation of the PIDAQ questionnaire to assess the psychosocial impact of dental esthetics in Chilean adolescents recently carried out needs to confirm its internal consistency and temporal stability. The aim of this study was to validate the psychometric properties of the Chilean version of the PIDAQ questionnaire. Methods: A phase III randomized sample study according to the Best Practices for Developing and Validating Scales for Health, Social and Behavioral Research was designed to confirm the psychometric properties. In adolescents (11-17 years old) seeking orthodontic care for the first time, PIDAQ Chilean version was applied. Internal consistency was evaluated with Cronbach's Alpha and test-retest reliability was assessed by calculating the ICC with a two-way random effect considering data from 28 subjects who answered the PIDAQ Chilean version questionnaire at the beginning of the research and a second time after 30 days of intervals. Results: A total of 28 questionnaires were completed twice. A high reliability with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.951 was obtained. The questionnaire showed a high temporal stability at test-retest with a total ICC of 0.907 (0.808-0.956). The questions grouped according to the dimensions of Dental Self-Confidence, Social Impact, Psychological Impact, and Esthetic Concern obtained an ICC of 0.91, 0.89, 0.89 and 0.88, respectively. Conclusions: The Chilean PIDAQ version achieved equivalence with the original questionnaire showing an excellent internal consistency, temporal stability, and an acceptable psychometric properties.
