Intelligent Bionic Manufacturing of Dental Prosthesis

Objectives: The intelligent bionic manufacturing technology for complex oral prosthesis, 3d printing systems for oral medicine, biomimetic laminated zirconia materials, and application of digital prosthetics in clinical practice were used to fabricate dental prosthesis, aiming to improve its efficiency and accuracy.
Methods: Data mining and artificial intelligence were used to map the physiological and anatomical characteristics of mankind and personalized prosthesis, then the integrated image matching design of prosthesis was carried out. Subsequently, a 3d metal printing machine was used to print prosthesis. Possessing the self-supporting printing reference database and intelligent adaptive printing strategy, the machine printed prosthesis through point-by-point molding of the overhanging surface of tooth structures. The efficiency and accuracy of design and printing of prosthesis were evaluated. Thereafter, laminated zirconia materials were used to fabricate bionic prosthesis. Based on these technologies mentioned above, clinical diagnosis and treatment programs, named as functionally suitable digital removable complete dentures and intelligent removable partial dentures, were used to evaluate the clinical efficiency and accuracy.
Results: The bionic design efficiency of the prosthesis was increased by 2 times (specific types increased by 6 times). The accuracy of key parts of the prosthesis was increased by 2 times, with overall printing efficiency (including typesetting) being increased over 5 times. The difficulty of diagnosis and cost of the prosthesis were reduced by 50%, with the key indicators of those technologies reaching the international leading level.
Conclusions: This research developed 8 kinds of core technology products in digital oral prosthesis and 2 kinds of clinical diagnosis and treatment programs. It helped to achieve precision, intelligence, and high efficiency during prosthesis and provide functional and aesthetic matching for patients after prosthesis.
