Properties of a Newly Developed Resin Cement System “PANAVIA™ Veneer LC”

Objectives: Kuraray Noritake Dental Inc. has developed a new resin cement system, PANAVIA™ Veneer LC, consisting of PANAVIA™ Veneer LC Paste (a light-cure cement paste, code: HL-100C), CLEARFIL™ CERAMIC PRIMER PLUS, K-ETCHANT Syringe, and PANAVIA™ V5 Try-in Paste. PANAVIA™ V5 Tooth Primer or CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick can be used for tooth treatment. HL-100C is a one paste formula composed of methacrylate monomers, fillers, light-curing initiators and polymerization catalysts. The purpose of this study was to compare the various properties of HL-100C with those of two commercially available resin cement systems: RelyX™ Veneer (3M ESPE), and Variolink® Esthetic LC (Ivoclar Vivadent).
Methods: 1) Color-stability: A color-stability test was performed according to ISO 4049 standards. Color difference values (ΔE*) between groups 1 and 2 and groups 3 and 4, shown in Table 1, were calculated using the following formula: ΔE*= [(ΔL*)2 + (Δa*)2 + (Δb*)2]1/2 2) Film thickness: Film thickness was measured based on ISO 4049 standards, with a modified smaller load (2kg) simulating clinical conditions (n=5/group). 3) Shear bond strength: The samples for the shear bond strength test were prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions (n=8/group).
Results: The results are summarized in Table 2 and Table 3. The data were analyzed statistically by one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s tests (p<0.05). Groups with the same letter by row were not significantly different (p>0.05).
Conclusions: With a small load that simulates clinical conditions, the new resin cement PANAVIA™ Veneer LC had the thinnest film thickness. In addition, it had the highest color-stability and comparable or higher bond strength than the other two resin cement systems. This study indicates that PANAVIA™ Veneer LC would exhibit reliable clinical performance in esthetic restoration.
