Clinical Performance of Restorations in Teeth Affected by MIH
Objectives: This study evaluated the clinical performances of a bulk fill glass hybrid restoration and direct posterior composite restorations with short glass-fiber (SGF) reinforced composite after Selective Caries Removal in restorations of first permanent molars (FPMs) that were affected by Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH). Methods: We selected 67 FPMs with MIH from 28 children aged 6-12 years. FPM fully erupted and with restorative treatment needed were the inclusion criteria. A total of 37 (55.22%) FPMs were restored with a bulk fill GIC (Equia Forte HT, GC, Europe) and 30(44.78%) with short-fibre reinforced flowable composite ( everX FlowTM)and composite. All restorations were clinically evaluated using Modified US Public Health Service criteria at baseline and 12 months. For each criterion there is a range of scores from Alpha (perfect) to Delta / Charlie (failure). Results: The success rate in retention criteria was 100% of bulk fill glass hybrid and 96.67% of direct composite restoration with SGF reinforced composite after 12 months. The success rate of marginal integrity of bulk fill glass hybrid and direct posterior composite restoration with SGF reinforced composite after 12 months was 89.2% and 100% respectively. No changes were found for the anatomical form and marginal discoloration for both groups in one-year follow-up. Conclusions: All restorations showed acceptable clinical performance in first permanent teeth that were affected by MIH regarding all evaluation criteria. The main cause of restoration failure was marginal integrity. The reason for the marginal integrity of deterioration in the restorations were the continuing enamel destruction in teeth with MIH
