Evaluation of the Effects of Experimental Primers on Dentin-Adhesive Bonding
Objectives: This study evaluated the effects of experimental primers on the microtensile bond strength and morphology of the bonding interface. Methods: Eighty-eight third molars were used for the microtensile bond strength test (n=8). An etch-and-rinse adhesive (Optibond S, Kerr) was applied on moist etched dentin after treatment with 35% phosphoric acid (PA) (negative control), and the others groups were applied experimental primers on dentin after PA in different concentrations and time, 0,2% chlorhexidine digluconate (30 and 60 sec) (positive control), 10mM naringin (30 e 60 sec), 20mM naringin (30 e 60 sec), 10mM kaempferol (30 e 60 sec) or 20mM kaempferol (30 and 60 sec) (experimental groups). Twenty-two additional teeth (n=2) were prepared using the adhesive mixed with rhodamine B, and the morphology of the bonding interface was assessed by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA with Tukey’s test (α=0.05) and Dunnet. Results: The bond strength values of the experimental primers groups did not differ from the control group (p>0.05). Conclusions: Adhesive application after dentin treatment with experimental primers at different concentrations and time showed equal values in dentin bond strength when compared to the control group.
