Evaluation of Crest Preservation With Titanium Platelet-Rich Fibrin (T-PRF)
Objectives: Crest preservation is a procedure which aims alveolar bone persistence and prevention of resorption at the related area after extraction of tooth. Titanium platelet-rich fibrin (T-PRF) is an autologous biomaterial, prepared in titanium tubes, with a strong fibrin structure. The aim of this study is to evaluate radiographically alveolar ridge changes of crest preservation with T-PRF with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).
Methods: Systemic healty 25 patients, who were consulted to Bezmialem Vakif University Department of Periodontology, were planned dental implant surgery after crest preservation with T-PRF. Crest preservations of 32 teeth extraction sites with T-PRF were performed. Each tooth was extracted minimal traumatically and prepared T-PRF membranes were condensed in the socket. Suturation with 5.0 polyprolene was performed at the extraction areas to stabilize the membranes in the socket. Immediately after procedure, a CBCT was taken with a stent, have an embedded radiographically visible marker on the top of the extraction site, previously prepared. 10 days after the operation, the sutures were removed. 3 months after the operation, a second CBCT was taken in the same way because of the dental implant surgery as a control tomography.
Results: According to the measuremets on the CBCT images, vertically 95% socket filling and horizontally 85% ridge width preservation in average was found.
Conclusions: T-PRF appears to be an important autogenous alternative to current crest preservation methods.
