Risk Factors for Mucositis and Periimplantitis: Systematic Review and Meta- Analysis
Objectives: The objective of the research was to identify the risk factors related to mucositis and periimplantitis through a systematic review and meta-analysis Methods: Inclusion criteria. Studies that evaluated risk factors for peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis were included in this systematic review. Case and control studies, Cohort and Cross section were chosen. Search strategy. An electronic search was performed using the following databases Medline, Cochrane, Ebsco, Medline, Lilacs, Redalyc, Scielo and Clinical Key. The following words Mesh were used in all possible combinations: risk factors, Periodontal Disease, peri-implant mucositis, Peri Implantitis, Peri-Implant Disease, and Risk indicator. They were used as Bolianos connectors AND, OR and NOT Quality of the articles. To evaluate the quality of the articles the Newcastle - Ottawa Scale was applied. The elements in the checklist were evaluated for each of the items included (Selection, Comparability and Exposure Results: 18 articles were included, these were classified into the following groups: factors inherent to the patient, factors related to periodontal condition / peri implant, factors related to habits and systemic condition, factors related to rehabilitation and other related factors According to the evidence found, the analysis reported that the habit of smoking presents a risk for mucositis of 1.76 (IC95% 1.34-2.30). Within the development of this study, the risk factors associated with peri implantitis were evaluated, finding that for the variable smoking there is a significant association for the development of peri implantitis with an OR of 1.68 (95% CI 1.14-2.49). For the risk factor diabetes and peri implantitis, there was a moderate risk associated with the presence of the disease with a heterogeneity of 47% [OR 2.75 (IC95% 1.42-5.29)]. The presence of biofilm versus the development of peri implantitis presented an OR of 2.85 (IC95% 1.90-4.27) Conclusions: Perimplant disease presents multiple risk factors. Smoking is a risk factor for both mucositis and peri implantitis. The presence of biofilm and diabetes are significant risk factors for Perimplantitis.
