Multiple Implant Planning Software Programs Show Comparable Features
Objectives: To evaluate multiple CBCT reconstruction programs in terms of image quality, ease of use, measurement accuracy and implant treatment planning. Methods: Ten CBCT scans obtained from dried skulls were evaluated using 4 CBCT reconstruction programs; Nobel Clinician, CoDiagnostiX, Blue Sky Bio and Invivo for implant treatment planning. A single edentulous site in the posterior mandible was used as the test site. The site was clinically measured with a periodontal probe and a CBCT scan of the site was obtained. The site was evaluated by 4 evaluators using each of these software for ridge width, crestal topography and location of the inferior alveolar nerve canal. A modified Likert scale was used to evaluate ease of use and user experience. Results: All the programs provided comparable features for implant treatment planning like measurement tools, ease of creating panoramic images, cross sectional slices and providing a robust implant library. All the raters rated the software programs similarly, but the key differences pointed out were: Blue Sky Bio was available free of cost. Conclusions: All of the above-mentioned implant planning software presented comparable results for the parameters evaluated.
