Evaluation of a New Resin-Based Composite Flowable Restorative Delivery System
Objectives: To evaluate the performance of a new resin-based flowable delivery system in vivo. Methods: Study participants were 25 US dentists selected by 3M. Participants were asked to use 3M™ Filtek™ Supreme Flowable Restorative (FSFR), in a new delivery system, and rate specific performance criteria while comparing the new delivery system to the current offering. Research was conducted via a web-based survey which was administrated after a 4-week in-office trial period. Results: 25 participants completed the questionnaire. Quantified responses on a 5-point scale (best performance = 1, worst performance = 5) were statistically analyzed and summarized in Table 1:
95% CI was calculated using the Minitab 1-sample t test. A statistical majority agree (and were satisfied) with the features & characteristics of the new FSFR (mode, estimated median, and 95% CI rating always <3 (Neutral)). Additionally, 60% of the participants bent the customizable metal cannula for more than 50% of their cases indicating that the bendable cannula is a useful feature. Conclusions: This in vivo evaluation demonstrated a high level of satisfaction with the new syringe delivery system for FSFR. Dentists agreed that when using the new flowable delivery system they experienced virtually no bubbles, run-on, or waste. In addition, dentists experienced improved comfort and easier dispensing with the enhanced ergonomic design of the new delivery system.
