Comparison of Different RMGI Cements Bond Strength to Zirconia
Objectives: To measure the bond durability of a new resin-reinforced glass ionomer cement to zirconia compared to other cements on the market. Methods: Zirconia slabs 14 mm x 3 mm thick were prepared from GC Initial Zirconia HT, mounted in acrylic and finished with 600-grit diamond discs (6MB8, 3M) before sandblasting with 50 µm alumina at 3 bar pressure. Materials tested were FujiCEM Evolve (FCE, GC America), Meron Plus QM (MQM, VOCO), Nexus RMGI (NEX, Kerr Dental), RelyX Luting Plus (RLP, 3M). Specimens (n=8, N=64) were made using the Ultradent molds and jig according to ISO 29022:2013 to create 2.38 mm diameter cylinders on the substrates and allowed to cure for 10 minutes at 37C and 99% humidity and then stored for 24H in 37C deionized water and another group was cycled between 5 and 55C for 5000 cycles and tested with an Instron 5866 at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. Means and standard deviations were determined. Data were analyzed by ANOVA and Fisher’s PLSD at the 0.05 level of significance. Results: FCE showed significantly higher bond strength than other cements before and after thermocycling. NEX showed significantly lower bond strength after thermocycling. Conclusions: FujiCEM Evolve had the highest bond strength to zirconia of all RMGI cements tested.
