Temperature changes in soft tissue incisions using different laser wavelengths
Objectives: The aim of our study was to evaluate temperature increase during incisions using diode and CO2 lasers. Methods: Chicken breast at room temperature was used. Two thermocouples (T0 and T1) were placed into chicken breast at distance of 20mm. Parallel incisions (in total 80) were made 3mm away from the thermocouples using diode lasers (445nm/blue light and 970nm) with initiated tips (2W continuous wave, CW) and CO2 laser with 2W (CW and Superpulse mode). Temperature changes were recorded in real time. Statistical comparison was performed using ANOVA and Tukey tests. Results: Temperature increases during laser irradiation area demonstrated in the table. *Tested by one-way repeated analysis of variance (ANOVA) 1 Tested by Tukey tests of differences between means of 445nm initiated vs. 970nm initiated; 2 Tested by Tukey tests of differences between means of 445nm initiated vs. CO2 laser cw 2w; 3 Tested by Tukey tests of differences between means of 445nm initiated vs. CO2 laser superpulse 2w. 4 Tested by Tukey tests of differences between means of 970nm initiated vs.CO2 laser cw 2w. 5 Tested by Tukey tests of differences between means of 970nm initiated vs. CO2 laser superpulse 2w. 6 Tested by Tukey tests of differences between means of CO2 laser cw 2w vs. CO2 laser superpulse 2w. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study the 445nm (blue light) diode laser has a similar impact on temperature changes, like the conventional CO2 in cw or Superpulse mode for surgery and has a lower risk than the 970nm diode laser.
