Comparation of Stress Distribution Along the Implant-bone Under Different Loadings by Finite Element Analysis
Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the stress distribution along the implant-bone interface of implants placed at different angulations (nontilted, tilted 15o, 30o, and 45o) under different loadings (150N and 300N), using finite element analysis. Methods: 4 CAD models of implant and bone were made through three-dimensional optical scanning and point cloud data extraction, including 1) implant was placed nontilted; 2) placed at 15o; 3) placed at 30o; and 4) at 45o. A Straumann implant (3.3 X 10 mm) was scanned with a Dentium Rainbow scanner, and mandible bone model was extracted from CBCT. The 3-D model of the implants in the mandible was constructed with Solidworks CAD software. The finite element analyses were carried out using Solidworks Simulation. The physical interaction at implant-bone interfaces during loading were considered through bonded surface-to-surface contacts. Static loading (axial force of 150N and 300N) were applied to evaluate the implant-bone model. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA; α = .05), followed by multiple comparison tests, was used to evaluate the difference of stress. Results: The stress along the implant was larger under 300N loading than 150N loading. The stress along titled implant was larger than nontilted implant under either 150N or 300N loading. There was no significant difference of stress found among different angled implants. The displacements along the titled implant is larger than nontilted implant also. Conclusions: The stress distribution along the implant-bone interface increased when the loading increased. The titled implants resulted in larger stress distribution.
