Keynote Address: Bone Tissue Engineering for the Next Centennial – Where we Were, Are and Now Going
Abstract Body: “We become what we behold. We shape our tools and then our tools shape us”. The quote often attributed to Marshall McLuhan could not better represent how bone regeneration has been achieved over the past century and how it will further evolve for years to come. This presentation will focus on the history of bone regeneration, as well as on how manufacturing processes and biomolecular design has led the field of bone tissue engineering to unprecedented levels, where soon extensive critical defects of the axial and appendicular skeleton will be bridged without the need of autografts in both pediatric and adult populations.
