Method: The research was performed in 50 CBCT exams of 21 men and 29 women, with surgical indication for autogenous bone grafting. The Implant Viewer ® version 2.608 software was used to take the linear measurements “a” (closest portion to the alveolar bone crest); “b” (intermediate portion between “a” and “c”) and “c”, closest point to the mandibular canal.
Result: For the male gender, statistically significant differences were observed between the measurements “a”, “b” and “c”, bilaterally, in the retromolar region, with “a” having the highest value. For mandibular third molars, there were no statistically significant differences only on the right side. Whereas, for the female gender, there were statistically significant differences between measurements “a” and “b” for the retromolar region, bilaterally. For the mandibular third molar, there were statistically significant differences only for measurement “c”, bilaterally. For the mandibular first and second molars, there were statistically significant differences between the measurements “a”, “b” and “c”, only on the left side, with only “b” and “c” differing between them.
Conclusion: From the CBCT evaluation it was concluded that the donor site in both the male and female gender, bilaterally, was thickest in the mandibular retromolar and third molar regions, and that region “a" presented the greatest cortical thickness of all the regions.
